---------------------------------------------- isolation n.4
my father's leather shoes sang once a week,
on Sunday of course
they slowly crunched their song in the morning
when he went to the bar in the square before mass
and when he returned home
and after lunch he placed the bottle of grappa in its place in the cupboard
my father's leather shoes sang once a week,
on Sunday of course
the other days they waited
my father's leather shoes,
they were so shiny that they looked like mirrors to me
they were his only leather shoes
they were handmade by a friend of the village
years have passed
things have changed
no, it wasn't better when it was worse, as people say
the point is that we have consumed many plastic shoes
under this gray suburban sky
and I've changed too of course
the world has changed
though my father's leather shoes are still there
and still sing once a week
I can't wait to see them again beautifully shiny
well tied on my father's feet
but now I can't
in isolation as we all are, I am
