poem one thing at a time

I sing
I sing one thing at a time
since life goes back and forth like so
in short and uncertain steps on this inclined table of the world
life goes on as the waves on a stormy sea

and then I sing
I sing a single clod of earth ,
a single grape a lonely raindrop
since of those poor and sacred elements we are all made of
under this sun
and if poetry has gone by here
it did for a moment for a brief gust of wind
in this desert of a thousand solitudes

and then I sing without fear
I chant verses from the edges of the world
for those who will have the patience to listen and to stay
and come what may
and so be it
