lambs and wolves in the fairy tale

under this suburban sky
  one rule and a real fact resist
that we need one another
of the other one
 just the same and different
real

while merely incidental are the thanks and the regards, the bowing rituals
the smiles the tears the claims the recriminations
and the resentments

as we are prey and predators
under this gray Sun
and only that awareness will save us all
not the fanaticism of denial
or the absolute affirmation in the ephemeral chasing
a universal alleged primal order of things ....

we are wolves and lambs at the same time
and we all know
and then we can look into each other's eyes without fear
and together around the fire, now as thousands of years ago,
cross the dark night
and wait
  the mercy and the grace of
  of another day 
 deserved with a helping hand
yet
under this grey suburban sky
